Then and Now

The same ol’ story been forever told,
‘Bout seeing the young an’ feeling so old.
We’re not much for change an’ even tho we try,
Them days of old stay with us ‘til the day we die.

TV was Bonanza an’ the Ed Sullivan show,
Bedrock was a place where every kid wanted to go.
Penny candy really was just a penny,
Now, if you have a buck it’ll hardly buy any.

Kids joined the scouts or rode their bike,
Played in a tree house or took an afternoon hike.
Now kids play games of the electronic kind,
Forgetting that fitness means body and mind.

The ol’ days of retirement and pensions are done,
Older folks want to work but jobs are next to none.
No telling where this country is headed to,
But changes for the better are long overdue.
