First things First… Define Fodder

A fodder is any agricultural foodstuff used specifically to feed domesticated livestock such as chickens, horses, pigs, cattle and goats. The term refers to food given to animals, rather than the food they forage for themselves. Types of plants typically grown for fodder include alfalfa, barley, oats, clover, grass and wheat.

I found this very informative article that explains more on this concept and how to make your own fodder. I’m always interested in learning ways to cut my feed bill, so this certainly got my attention! Not sure I’d want to consider this alternative food source if a had a lot of animals, but for a hobby farm, this is certainly worth taking the time to research the pros & cons.
