I was hesitant about getting a RIR, having heard that they can be aggressive. But “Nugget” is one of my favorite birds – she is curious and sociable and such a good layer – always up on the nesting counter even before the sun is up. Great addition to the flock.
I’ve had a few RIR, most were ok… but some were pretty nasty. Bossy I guess is a better word!
The Rhode Island Red is a favorite here! They tolerate both heat and cold, and they’re great egg producers. They do not seem to be broody – which is a good thing (at least for us!).
